A father who is concerned for the spiritual life of his children told me recently, “I have sent 1000 rupees for my elder son last month, to the young partner’s scheme of a Christian leader, and will send for the other son soon. That will take care of their spiritual life”. He believed that somebody who will pray for the welfare of his children regularly. He did not know that he himself can pray directly to the Lord without a mediator.
God answers the prayers of all His children, if they pray with belief Matt 21:22 and as per His will 1John 5:14. Nobody will pray with burden and concern for the children, other than the parents. So all parents can pray for their children. Here are a few common prayer points for the parents, who do not know how to pray for their children. They can pray for these prayer points instead of just praying ‘Lord bless my family’ or ‘Lord bless my Children’. Pray:
- That they may accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour when they were very young and lead a holy and righteous life.
- That they may increase in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and man.
- That they will pray and meditate the Word of God daily to grow in their spiritual life.
- That they will hate sin and love what is good.
- That they will be protected from bad friends and the influence of the world.
- That they will be protected from the attacks of the devil and his bad influence.
- That they will develop the right ‘value system in life’ and will ‘walk worthy of their call’.
- That they will respect, love and help relatives and others.
- That they will have good health and acquire the needed education as per God’s will.
- That they will be led to a job of God’s choice for them.
- That they will be virtuous till they get married and marry a believer of God’s choice.
- That they will respect those in authority and be kept out of corruption and wickedness in life.
- That they will be strong in the Lord and obey God and resist the devil.
- That they will give first place to God in their lives and involve deeply in the ministry of the Lord.
- That they will fear the Lord and walk in his ways all through their lives and establish a God-fearing family.
