Entrapped by Bad Habits

There was a rich man who had an intelligent and beautiful son. The rich man wanted his son to get excellent and useful education under an educated and experienced guru. So he took his son to guru who lived in the nearby forest and requested the guru to be his teacher.

The guru accepted the request and promised to train the boy for good behaviour. The boy stayed with the guru in the forest. In the evening the guru took the boy to the garden and asked him to pluck out a very small plant. The boy pulled it out very easily. Then the guru asked the boy to pull out another bigger plant. The boy pulled out the plant with some effort.

Then the Guru took the boy to one corner of his garden and asked him to pluck out a still bigger plant. The boy tried his best and could not pluck it out. So the boy looked at the guru and hesitantly said that he did not have the strength to pull it out, and he needed the help of the guru. So the guru offered to help him and they pulled out the plant with some effort.

Then the guru asked the boy to pluck out a small tree taller than the boy. The boy did not even try to pull it out. He knew well the tree is stronger and he had no strength to pull it out. So the boy said, “It is impossible for us to pull it out. We need other people to help us”.

“So is the habits”, said the guru, “A habit can be overcome easily in the beginning, but when the habit gets rooted and become part and parcel with you, you won’t be able to get rid of it. It will enslave you and it will get deeply rooted like the tree, needing the power of God to overcome it”.

The Bible teaches that sin can entrap a person “His own iniquities entrap the wicked man and he is caught in the cords of his sin” Pro 5:22. So if you are entrapped by bad habits, then there is only one way to get over them. It is possible only through Jesus Christ. “Therefore if the Son (Jesus Christ) makes you free, you shall be free indeed” John 8:36.

Dearly beloved, are you entrapped by any bad habit? Only Jesus Christ can give you freedom from your bad habit. Will you put your trust on Jesus Christ, and accept him as your Lord and Saviour, for deliverance from the entrapment by bad habits?
