Importance of Meditation
A leader of an organisation once attended a conference for Christian leaders. There was a session on the meditation of the Word of God in the conference. The leader never gave importance to meditation because he thought that meditation is for gurus and rishis. The Lord spoke to him that the meditation of the Word of God is very important. After attending the session, he decided to meditate on the Word of God daily. Let us see why believers must meditate on the Word of God.
1.God’s commandment to Leaders
When God commissioned Joshua to lead the people, God told him to meditate the Word of God day and night. “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night; that you may observe to do according to all what is written in it” (Josh. 1 :8).
2. Bringing God’s blessings
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord. And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. That brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper” (Ps. 1 :2, 3).
3.Bring Understanding:
My mouth shall speak wisdom and meditation of my heart shall bring understanding” (Ps.49:3).
4. Give Satisfaction
“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches” (Ps. 63 :5,6).
5.Gives Supreme Knowledge
“I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation” (Ps. 119:99). A schoolteacher knowing the importance of meditation of the Word of God, decided to meditate one verse during lunch-break, when she was asked to supervise the dining-hall. She made this decision because it was a hard time for her to stand in the dining-hall and walk between the tables when the students ate food. She started meditating verses like “Be still and know that I am God”. (Ps. 46: 10) and thought on each word and phrase over and over in her mind. She did this meditation and it became a delight. She experienced great peace and knew God like David. It became a blessing to her. “Oh, how I love your· law. It is my meditation all the day”(Ps. 119:97).
May the Lord help us to meditate the Word of God like this lady in our day to day life.
