Uniqueness of the Word of God

Uniqueness of the Word of God

There was a young preacher who went to meet an old lady. The lady was in bed for many days. But when he entered the house, the old lady put the Bible on her bed and said, “Praise the Lord”. The preacher asked the old lady, “Hello Granny! What are you praising the Lord about?” She answered, “I’m praising the Lord because I have just read in the Bible that God said that He would never leave me nor forsake me. I am lying here on bed and praising God for His promise”.

The young pastor answered, “Granny I want to tell you something that I have studied in the seminary. In the Greek Bible the verse reads, “I will never, never, no never leave thee, Is not that wonderful Granny?” asked the pastor. The old lady remained silent for some time and said, “Well, God may have to say it three times for you preachers, but once is good enough for an old lady like me”.

The Word of God is unique in the respect that we can claim the promises of the Bible at the darkest hour of our life. David Livingston returned to his country from Africa. And while talking to the college students he said, “Shall I tell you what sustained me during the hardships and loneliness in my exile? It was God’s promise, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” Mat 28:20. God’s Word is encouraging us in hardships. Let us see the other uniqueness of the Word of God.

  1. It Convicts: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” Heb. 4: 12.
  2. It Converts: “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” Ps 19:7.
  3. It Corrects: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2Tim 3:16, 17.
  4. It Comforts: “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me” Ps. 119:50.
  5. It Cleanses: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”. Jn. 15:3.
  6. It Conquers: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” Ps.119:11.
  7. It Consecrates:  “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth ” Jn. 17: 17.
