Approach to Hindus
- Published in Needs in Neighbourhood
Many believers are burdened to reach their neighbours. But they don’t know how to present the gospel to them. Here are a few ways and approaches to present the gospel effectively to them.
Respect for Bible: Most of the Hindus consider Bible as a holy book. So when you present the gospel to them, ask them to read Bible verses in your presence. Give them Bible or New Testament or gospel portion and ask them to read it. God has touched many people through His Word and His Word is powerful.
High regard for prayer: Never hesitate to pray with a Hindu. He likes to pray to any God and accepts Jesus as one of the gods. He likes prayer to be offered for him and it produces a good impression on you.
Arguments: Never argue with a Hindu. But share the gospel with humility and love. Always use the terms that he will understand easily. Use their language and not Christian language.
Sacrificial and simple life style: A Hindu is taught to have a sacrificial and simple life. So your modelling plays a major role to bring him to Christ.
Criticism: Never criticise the beliefs and practices of Hinduism but learn to appreciate what is good in them and always talk about the unique claims of Christ and how He meets our spiritual needs.
Search for peace: Most of the Hindus search for peace by various rituals and practices. So tell them how Jesus can give them peace. You can share how you found peace and satisfaction in Christ.
The problem of Sin: All Hindus have the problem of sin and guilt. Tell them that sin is an offensive against God, and it separates them from God. Share from the Word of God that only Christ can solve their problem of sin and guilt. You can use the experiences of Hindu converts to show them how Jesus had solved the problem of sin in their lives.
Sharing the uniqueness of Bible and Jesus Christ: Sharing this uniqueness will enable them to read the Word of God and put their trust on Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus Christ and His unique incarnation in the history of the world will help them to accept Jesus as living God. Tell them that the Bible is unique with no internal contradictions.
Hell and Heaven: All Hindus believe in the life after death. They want to evade reincarnation and escape from the cycles of rebirth by Karma. Tell them that Jesus can give them eternal life and only through Jesus Christ one can reach heaven.
God’s Love: Telling them that the love of God is shown on the cross will enable them to understand the gospel. Share with them the vicarious death of Jesus and the cost that he paid to save men from sin.
Encourage them to believe on Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Lord and Saviour. You can pray with them and if possible request them to pray with you. Meet them periodically and talk with them with prayer till they put their trust on Jesus Christ.
