The New Year day: The first day of the month of the Hindu lunar year is usually celebrated as their New Year day. It is the first day of the first month called Chaitra which comes in April. In this year, the New Year day is 14th April 1995 which is a government holiday.
There are about 725 million Hindus in the world and about 675 million Hindus in India.
In the total population of the world, 13.5 percent people are Hindus. They are more than the total number of Protestants in the world (10.3%).
In the world, there are three Hindu countries. They are India, Nepal and Mauritius. Among these countries, India is a secular country open for the gospel. Nepal is gradually opening for the gospel and Mauritius is a country closed for missionary activities.
The Hindus believe that there are two important factors which affect their salvation. They are reincarnation and Karma.

Animism: Animism is worshipping and offering sacrifice to nature. Many Hindus worship nature gods like heaven, thunder, and fire. Even now some Hindus worship nature gods and they are animists.
Monism: Monism is the belief in one god. The belief that there is only one God in this world also was accepted and practised by Hindus.
Avatar literally means ‘descent’ and avatar is the coming down of Vishnu to the world for a particular purpose. So avatar is nothing but incarnation. The Bible talks about the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Here are some differences between avatars of Vishnu and the avatar (incarnation) of Jesus Christ.
In Bhagavata Purana, the most popular and important Purana, Vishnu is described to have descended nine times and took nine avatars or incarnations. It also says that he will come again at the end of Kalki age to take the tenth avatar.
The important scriptures of Hinduism can be divided into two major categories. They are Sruti that which is heard or seen, and Smriti that which is remembered.
