  1. Produced grief to Isaac and Rebekah:“When Esau was forty years of old, he took as wives Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon, the Hittite, and they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah” Gen 26:34, 35.
  2. Brought God’s wrath on Eli’s family: Then the Lord said to Samuel, “…I have told him (Eli) that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them and therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever” I Sam 3:11-14.
  3. Put an end to the leadership in Samuel’s family: “Now it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made his sons judges over Israel. But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes and perverted justice. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, ‘Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make for us a king to judge us like all the nations” I Sam 8:1-5.
  4. Brought death, weeping and mourning to David: After hearing the death of Absalom, King David was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: “O my son Absalom-my son, my son Absalom – if only I had died in your place O Absalom my son, my son!” II Sam 18:32, 33.
